Biography

Andrew M Smith Artist

Andrew M Smith is a British born landscape artist who paints primarily in the watercolour and the gouache mediums, and has been involved with international organisations, exhibiting both locally and internationally from 2015 to the present day. In 2019 Andrew was chosen to display at the Royal Institute of Watercolours at Mall Gallery, London for the 208th annual exhibition. Andrew founded the International Watercolour Society Malta branch in 2015, and as country leader for Malta founded the Fabriano International Festival’s presence in Malta, facilitating Malta’s entry into the large and prestigious festival in Italy.

Andrew was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Malta in 2004 where he learnt the arts and developed a closer relationship with the watercolour medium, and painting outdoors “en plein air”.

The artist draws inspiration from the impressionists movement in France in the late 1800s as well as the later “realist” artists such as John Singer Sargent. Andrew believes in expressing colour and tone, and exploring the different facets of the almost infinite properties which constitute the making of a painting.
